Welcome to Youth Motivator. I would like to tell you the success story of Bill Gates and his company Microsoft.
Bill Gates is a legendary and iconic tech entrepreneur who is changing the world for good.
He was continuously ranked as the richest person in the world for 18 long years.
Now, Bill Gates is the third richest person in the world and his total net worth is 103.8 billion dollars.
He is the co-founder of the Microsoft Corporation.
Let us know how a college drop-out built the world’s biggest software company, Microsoft and how he rose to such great heights.
Like many successful companies, Microsoft was also started in a tiny space and later it grew to become one of the world’s most influential companies.
This article is the biography of Bill Gates.

William Henry Gates III was born on October 28, 1955 to Bill Gates Sr. (also known as William Henry Gates II) and Mary Maxwell Gates in Seattle, Washington, USA.
His father, William Henry Gates II was a very reputable lawyer.
Since his childhood, Bill Gates showed a great interest in mathematics and computers.

Bill Gates studied in the Lakeside School in his native Seattle. This was a high-end school.
Here, Bill Gates got his hands-on computers and started exploring them.
He was very interested to know the working mechanism of computers.
He eventually developed a great passion for computers.
Bill Gates used to spend a great deal of his time for programming by using BASIC language.

Developing Tic-Tac-Toe-

When Bill Gates was of just 13 years old, he wrote a program for a game by name Tic-Tac-Toe in a BASIC computer language.
An interesting feature of this game was that, this game was a single-player game, which means, one can play this game with the computer alone without the need of another player.
He later befriended Paul Allen, who was also a computer enthusiast.
Paul Allen was a senior to Bill Gates by two years.
Both of them used to spend most of their time writing programs on the computers present in their school.
Also, they used to fiddle with the computer software.
After a few days, the school authorities restricted Bill Gates from entering the computer lab because Bill Gates used to spend most of his school hours in the computer lab, thus neglecting other subjects.
Fortunately, this restriction was uplifted shortly.
Bill Gates later developed useful software for his school which helps in scheduling the time-table of school.

Venturing into business at a very young age-

Bill Gates and his friend Paul Allen ventured into business, during this time Bill Gates was just 15 years old.
Later, these friends developed a software program by name Traf-O-Data, which analysed the vehicular traffic patterns in the Seattle city.
For their efforts, they received a sum of 20,000 dollars. This was their first ever earning.
This motivated Bill Gates and Paul Allen to start their business.
But Bill Gates parents wanted him to finish his schooling and go on to college to study law.
So according to their wish, he joined Harvard University for studying law.

Developing software for MITS-

Once, Bill Gates accidently came across a magazine by name Popular Electronics.
On the cover page of that magazine, he saw about a computer by name MITS Altair 8800.
This news attracted the attention of Bill Gates, who upon researching found that the manufactures of that computer were in the need of software to run their computers.
Here, Bill Gates realised a very good opportunity.
So, Bill Gates and Paul Allen made a business deal with MITS to develop the computer software.
Later, these two people developed the software by working hard for two months in the Harvard computer center.
The software developed by Bill Gates and Paul Allen was one of the first computer software.
This software worked very well with the Altair computers and this success made them popular figures.

The birth of Microsoft-

Microsoft was started in the poker room of the Harvard University dorm.
And on 4 April 1975, Microsoft was co-founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States.
Bill Gates was just 19 years old when he co-founded Microsoft.
The term Microsoft meant a combination of microcomputers and software.
And to devote his full time and focus on the Microsoft Company, Bill Gates dropped out from Harvard University.
Initially, this start-up faced many setbacks, one of which is that even though their software developed to the Altair computers gained them royalty and profits, they were unsatisfied because many people distributed their popular software copies in the market for free of cost.
According to Bill Gates, only a small fraction of people, that is around 10 per cent of the people had actually paid for the BASIC software used in the Altair computer systems.
And this prompted Bill Gates to write an open letter in February 1976 to the computer enthusiasts in which he said “continued distribution and use of software without paying for it would prevent good software from being written”.

The bitter relationship-

Bill Gates had a bitter relationship with the MITS computers president, Ed Roberts.
Bill Gates often disagreed with him in the areas of software development and the business directions.
And Ed Roberts later sold the MITS Company in the year 1977 and went on to become a country doctor.
Bill Gates and Paul Allen sued the new owner of MITS to reclaim their software rights for the computer software they developed for the MITS computer systems.
Microsoft wrote custom computer software to many computer companies depending on their specific needs.
And later in the year 1979, Bill Gates shifted Microsoft to Washington and Bill Gates became the head of Microsoft and focused heavily on building business.

Becoming a million dollar company-

In that same year, Microsoft crossed 2.5 million dollars. During this time Bill Gates was just 23 years old.
In the initial days, Bill Gates used to personally check each and every computer code and used to modify it as necessary.
During November 1980, a big computer manufacturer by name IBM contacted Bill Gates to develop an operating system for their new range of personal computers.

Then, Bill Gates purchased an already existing operating system for 50,000 dollars and worked on it, renamed it as MS-DOS and sold it to the IBM for the same fees as he bought the software initially.

The masterstroke of Bill Gates -

IBM requested Bill Gates for the source code of the software to gain more insights into the software, but Bill Gates refused instead he proposed IBM to pay a licensing fee for every single software copy he sold to them.
This turned out to be the best decision of Microsoft and this allowed them to successfully licence their software, MS-DOS.
In between the years 1979 and 1981, Microsoft grew rapidly and thus increased its number of employees.
The revenue of Microsoft got increased by more than 6 times from 2.5 million dollars to 16 million dollars.

The biggest milestone-

The Microsoft Windows operating system was released on 20 November 1985.
Microsoft Windows is a big milestone in the journey of Microsoft Corporation.
By launching Windows operating system, Bill Gates captured the world of software.
During those times, the market share of windows was a whopping 95 per cent.
When the era of internet arrived, Bill Gates launched an internet browser by name Internet Explorer.
Now, more than 78 per cent of the computers in the world run on the Windows operating system.

Earning millions per day-

Now, Bill Gates earns more than 33.3 million dollars per day.
Bill Gates dreamed to become a millionaire by the age of 30, but instead he became a billionaire at the age of 31.
With the passage of time, the fortune of Bill Gates also multiplied rapidly, so much so that he was the richest person in the world for a straight 18 years.
And the now, Microsoft Corporation is one of the leading software companies in the world.
The present CEO of Microsoft is Satya Narayana Nadella.
In the year 1994, he married Melinda Ann Gates, who was a former general manager at Microsoft.

Bill Gates is also a very kind-hearted philanthropist, who strives to makes our world a better place.
He pledged to donate the 95 per cent of his wealth to the poor and unprivileged people.
So, Bill Gates established Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation by contributing 28 billion dollars, as he believed that the real meaning of wealth would be in helping the people around him.
His foundation contributes in the areas of health, agriculture, education, poverty eradication and economic development.
Bill Gates also donated vaccines to the poor children in many countries, by which he saved the precious lives of nearly 50 lakhs children.
The noble mission of Bill Gates is that by the year 2035, there must not be a single poor country in this world.

His family-

Bill Gates is blessed with three children namely, Phoebe Adele Gates, Rory John Gates and Jennifer Katharine Gates.
Bill Gates wants his children to be self-dependent and he wants them to stand on their own feet, so even though he is a multi-billionaire, he decided to provide them with a good education and with a sum of only 10 million dollars each.
Bill Gates donated his remaining wealth to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, without expecting anything in return.
Along with his friend, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates also started an organisation by name The Giving Pledge.
By this organisation, he requested all the rich people in this world to donate a part of their wealth for charities.
By his call, more than 204 people, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Azim Premji, etc. came forward to contribute their part to the society.

Simplicity as the standard of life-

Even though Bill Gates is one of the richest persons in the world, he leads a very simple and normal life.
He spends most of his time for improving the lives of the poor and unprivileged children across the world.
